Antique mortar and pestle, research points to a likely 17th century (c 1600s to early 1700s). Most likely European. Similar examples come from Spain, Portugal or even France. Made of extremely heavy bronze or possibly tarnished brass. Has embellishments on sides.
Stands on its own but bottom is slightly rounded as these would likely have been suspended by side notches. In good condition with normal wear for its likely 17th century age. Some of the embellishments or crests are more worn than others. Inside, there is a blemish that was likely a casting error and not damage (pictured).
Great piece for the collector of pharmacy or apothecary history.
